Happy New Year!

December 31, 2009 at 9:30 pm UTC

Happy New Year, everyone! I sincerely hope that 2010 is a joyous one for each of you, filled with wonder and awe.

To send off 2009 in style, here’s the Choir of the Westminster Cathedral (London) giving a stunning performance of Lux Aurumque during Midnight Mass last week.

I really like King's College Choir's video of Lux, too.

  • Catherine Jane

What beauty there is still to be found in this sick, sorry old world of ours. Thank you for your inspirational music!

  • Carolyn

    Hey,
Just wanted to let you know that Lux received high praise from Thomas Lauderdale of Pink Martini. He liked it so much after hearing one of our impromptu performances that he carved out space in his sold out New Year's Eve concert here in PDX, Oregon for my choir to sing it.
Huge fan of your excellent work :)
    Happy new year,
    Carolyn

Clear, and very warm! To me, this was one of the warmest versions of this piece that I have heard in a very long time. Beautiful!

  • Thom

If only the youtube sound quality was better! Male soprano's give me the chills!

  • Stephen Williams

Does anyone know how to get into contact with Mr. Whitacre?

  • johnmackey

Holy hell (so to speak). That's stunning.

  • Micah Coston

    Eric,

I thoroughly enjoyed the concert at Westminster Cathedral! I was thrilled when the choir started into your Lux Aurumque. It reminded me of our performance of the piece at Bob Jones University. Dr. Warren Cook exposed me to many of your compositions in the University Chorale. Your art is so full of texture and surprise.

    Best,
    Micah

Wonderful and beautiful. Hey Eric, hope your New Year is a happy, prosperous one. Those of us who've bookmarked your blog are starting to miss reading you. Throw us a bone.

This is a great recording! I adore this song. Here is a recording of my high school choir performing it at a state competition in 2008. Hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed singing it.
