Nox Aurumque: Publication Date

May 9, 2009 at 7:54 pm UTC

First, a huge THANK YOU to all of you who sent me such positive feedback regarding this piece. I can’t tell you how much your messages mean to me.

Many of you have asked about a publication date for Nox. As this was actually a consortium commission, the Minneapolis performance was really just the first of four ‘premieres,’ so once the other commissioning groups have had a chance to perform it – Falu Kammerkor in Sweden; Coro Citta di Roma in Italy; and Khorikos in NYC – we’ll go to print. (Most likely October-November of this year.)

I’ve been working on a big post that digs deeper into one of the musical quotes I used in Nox (some of you have correctly identified it as sounding like a moment from the symphonic wind version of Lux). I’ll put that up as soon as I’ve finished writing it.

Sounds good! I’m really excited for it to go into print!

I can’t wait. Another piece to analyze! :D

Now that you’ve given the world a taste of your music they’ll be constantly craving more. Not that it will be a problem for you… As long as delectable poetry lingers on I feel you’ll have plenty to say to audiences.

  • Sam

Glad to know for sure. Can’t wait, I need to own that music.
Nox has quickly become one of my favorite pieces ever. I’m trying really hard not to get sick of it.

I was fortunately able to hear this on the day it was premiered and absolutely fell in love with it! I was also part of the Minnesota High School Honors Choir and my favorite part was performing Sleep under Sir Eric's direction with 400some other fantastic people. It was an experience that i will cherish for the rest of my life.

Is there any possibility of a wind ensemble transcription of Nox????

  • Bia De Luca

    Great :)))

Please, let us know when it is published! I want to be the first to buy it!!!

Dear Heavens on a breadstick. Nox is simply awesome. It's such a refreshing breath of air to hear music from the master himself that actually changes the perceptions of your (unmatched) style. It's so different, and unique, and ominous, and moving, and tender, and stylish, and and… AAAAH…

on to business though, since if I don't stop myself, I will be perpetually commenting on how astoundingly magnificent the music is:

Our Choir, The Akustika Chamber Singers (conducted by Christo Burger) from South Africa is going to a choral competition next year in March/April, and we heard your music. And we all unanimously (really, it took seconds of the music being played) agreed that we have to submit this as one of the pieces we will be singing at the competition.

The Problem however arises, that because of the commission exclusivity and the performances that are still due, as well as the fact that we hail from halfway across the globe, we might struggle to get the music on time, seeing as the music has to be submitted to the competition board at the end of november… SO, as we would gladly pay, with bodyparts or souls even, for the scores, is it possible that I could be directed to a website that I could either pre-order the scores, or get the contact details of someone I could promise cookies and a harem of beauties to get my hand on this piece of absolute musical nirvana?

By the way, Mr Whitacre, you are needed in South Africa. We love you. We really really do.

    Kind Regards,

    Leendert
