Save Sibelius!

August 7, 2012 at 9:22 pm UTC

Today in London Sibelius, one of the major music notation software companies, closed it’s doors. Looks like Avid, it’s parent company, is going to kill it off. I’m an old-fashioned pencil and paper guy, but this will still deeply affect my copyists, my publishers, and just about every composer I know. If you are a Finale user, this impacts you as well, as the competition from Sibelius has pushed Finale to innovate and improve.

There is a passionate online effort to keep the company afloat, and they need all the help they can get. Please follow this link to show your support and keep Sibelius alive.

I’m afraid that’s what you get when you get into bed with the devil. It was the sad case, yet again, of World leading British innovaters (The Finns) getting into bed with, and selling out to, big business rather than wanting to keep their company British. Sadly, Avid looks only at it’s bottom line, but that shouldn’t come as a surprise, after all, it’s a business as well.

Thank you, Eric, for bringing this concern to all of your fans and blog-readers alike. God bless.

I wish I could to say this whole issue is a hoax, but it’s much more malicious than that. The truth is that Avid stockis rising, and a major Sibelius upgrade is imminent. As for the rest, don’t believe everything you read online. Most of the people behind it have a hidden agenda. Go find out for yourself why Spreadbury & Co left Avid and what they were offered to stay.

    Sibelius is fine.
