January 22, 2016 at 8:41 am UTC

The Salvage Men is the first-ever choral piece from acclaimed American composer Jeff Beal written for the Eric Whitacre Singers and the Los Angeles Master Chorale. Performed live by the Eric Whitacre Singers and conducted by Eric in the incredible acoustic of London’s Union Chapel, this world premiere performance is not one to be missed. Widely-known for his work in film and television, Jeff Beal recently won an Emmy for his score of the Netflix phenomenon House of Cards.

Whilst working on the Al Pacino documentary ‘Wild Salome’, Jeff Beal was inspired by the words of Oscar Wilde’s ‘De Profundus’ portraying the authors arrest and last days in Paris. At the very same time Jeff found himself in the midst of an unexpected health crisis, which eventually lead to a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis. Beal writes, “Wilde’s De Profundus came at the beginning of a journey in learning how to live gracefully with an uninvited guest”. The Salvage Men takes text from De Profundus and the words of American poet Kay Ryan and translates this period of Jeff’s life into music for voices.
