Eric & the Eric Whitacre Singers at Union Chapel
Union Chapel, London, United Kingdom
With special guests Jeff Beal & Nicki Wells.
Following their last London appearance at iTunes Festival, Eric Whitacre and the Eric Whitacre Singers return to Union Chapel for a performance which will include pieces by Duruflé, Britten, Beal and Eric himself.
We also welcome Jeff Beal to Union Chapel to perform his first-ever choral piece, ‘The Salvage Men’, written especially for the Eric Whitacre Singers and the Los Angeles Master Chorale. Best-known for his compositions for film & media which have earned him thirteen prime time Emmy nominations, including his score and theme for House of Cards, Mr. Beal also has three statues.
Nicki Wells is an extraordinary young artist who has been singing and touring the world with Nitin Sawhney for the past 5 years. Having enthralled audiences with her incredible versatility from the Royal Albert Hall to Sydney Opera House she is now about to release her much anticipated album. ‘Ocean’ the song she will be performing at Union Chapel is the pivotal track establishing her unique ability to seamlessly blend eastern and western traditions with an unprecedented elegance.
Alongside the concert, the Centre for Performance, Royal College of Music and Imperial College will be leading a voluntary research study investigating the effects of singing on the health and wellbeing of singers and audience members. The research team will be analysing psychological data, stress hormones in saliva samples, and electrocardiogram data. The research will be continued at second performance at Gloucester Cathedral as part of Cheltenham Music Festival in July 2015 which will include a health symposium.
