Water Night for String Orchestra (With Recording!)

September 19, 2008 at 5:41 pm UTC

Here is a rough recording of a transcription of Water Night, made while I was in residence at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music a few years ago. I’m conducting, but I didn’t really have time to rehearse- we read through it once and then recorded.

I remember having a blast doing the transcription 11 (!) years ago while I was still a student at Juilliard. I tried to take full advantage of the strings, turning the infamous 14 part chord on “if you open your EYES” into a 25 part chord with lots of double and triple stops. And I gave all my favorite alto lines to the violas.
