ZOMG: A Concert and Recording with the Newly Formed “Eric Whitacre Singers”

May 19, 2010 at 11:13 am UTC

Yep, I’ve got my own choir now. And I’m freaking.

The Eric Whitacre Singers will be a fully professional chorus, based in London for now but eventually touring the globe.

I’m still kind of speechless about the whole thing. I’ve spent my entire adult life guest conducting and this will be my very first group, one that I can build from the ground up. Can’t even begin to describe how excited I am.

For our debut concert we will combine with the excellent British Chorus Laudibus, August 2nd in London’s gorgeous Union Chapel. I’ll announce the program (programme?) soon, but for certain it will include Lux Aurumque, Nox Aurumque, Leonardo Dreams of His Flying Machine, Water Night, and Sleep.

Then immediately following the concert we’ll go into the studio for four straight days, recording a complete collection of my works for chorus. This will also be the first time that I’ve ever professionally recorded my works with me conducting. Even as I write this I can’t stop smiling.

The first album will be released this fall. I’ll post more details as soon as I have them (rep list, exact release date, etc.), as well as different versions of the cover art. (I’m hoping you’ll help me decide which cover to use).

WOO HOO!
