Wow! I am truly humbled and honored by this gorgeous performance of October by the United States Navy Concert Band, conducted beautifully by Chief Musician Russell Gross. My deepest thanks to our dedicated men and women in uniform.
I promise I’m going to resurrect the “Advice for the Emerging Composer” series once I catch my breath (that will be October 25th, the day after my LSO concert and a week after the debut of Light and Gold).

As far as I can tell by reading his blog entry, W.H. Chong is an Australian artist who attended Gloriana’s Sunday choral concert in Victoria. When David Heard was on the program, and after the concert he posted this exquisite drawing, as well as several others inspired by the performance. You can see more of his gorgeous work here.
This is one of the pieces on the new disc that I am most excited about. This clip is from the second movement, Kala Kalla, and features the fantastic Pavao Quartet. Enjoy!
WQXR September 2010 – Virtual Choir Composer Aims for World Record
Wow – I didn’t know this piece until very recently: Messiaen’s extraordinary Turangalîla Symphonie. This is just the fifth movement, a bombastic feast of joy and color. And look at the size of that orchestra!
Decca has put together a nice mini-doc on the making of “Light & Gold” – lots of music from the album featured throughout.
